Quakes shake beds in Värmland

Light sleepers in Värmland were shaken awake by two minor earthquakes early on Wednesday morning. The first measuring two on the Richter scale hit at 1 am and the second, measuring 2.4 came four hours later.

“It was like an explosion that was muffled by a cushion,” local resident Pernilla Wåhlström told Swedish Radio's P4 Värmland channel.

“They were big enough to be felt but no more than that,” seismologist Reynir Bödvarsson at Uppsala University told P4 Värmland.

The quakes were centred on Vänern lake, south of Karlstad and south of the town of Munkfors.
