Half of teachers not teaching their subject

Just over a half of all primary and early secondary school teachers with university teaching qualifications have not studied the subjects they teach, according to a new study from the Swedish National Agency for Education.

In upper secondary schools there is a closer match to academic training with 63 percent teaching the subject they studied in college.

The figures are averages and it may be the case that teachers do teach their own subject but are also, due to staffing issues, required to teach other subjects.
