Driver dies after train hits lorry

A lorry driver has died, after a passenger train collided with his vehicle on a crossing near Nässjö. Swedish Television News reports that several of the Krösatåget train's carriages have been derailed.

And news agency TT reports that six people were taken to hospital, one is currently being treated for serious injuries.

Emergency spokesman David Palm says that most of the other passengers have been bussed away, and taken to local health centres for examination.

The crash happened at around 12:20 PM, and the police reported on their website the driver's death just after 3 PM.

Trains between Falköping and Nässjö are currently stopped. Traffic past the accident site will not restart for at least 48 hours.
