Swedish-led team waiting to enter Syria

The United Nations chemical weapons inspectors led by a Swedish professor are waiting to go into Syria. News agency AFP reports that their mission has been held up by "diplomatic wrangling over their powers and how to keep them safe."

Professor Åke Sellström is the head of the team. He was involved in disarming Iraq in the 1990s, and his former boss in Iraq says that the Swede is "competent and honest."

But Robert Kelley, an American who was in charge of the International Atomic Energy Agency inspection team in Iraq, says that if the team was actually sent into civilian areas then it would be a "suicide mission." Kelley says to Reuters that there is little chance of the team succeeding.
