Swedish PM Criticized in Denmark

Danish Foreign Minister Per Stig Møller criticized Sweden’s Prime Minister Göran Persson on Wednesday for taking part in an election rally ahead of next week’s national election.

Persson, the leader of Sweden’s Social Democrats’and prime minister of Sweden since 1996, joined his Danish party colleague Mogens Lykketoft, during a rally north of Copenhagen where they visited a kindergarten.

Denmark’s opposition Social Democrats are lagging behind in opinion polls while the center-right government bloc is expected to be re-elected in the February 8th vote.

Møller told Danish public radio that ”Lykketoft may need a lifesaver, but in principle, government members should not interfere in other countries’ election campaigns”
