Last Saturday three young women from the Ukrainian women’s rights group Femen entered the mosque in Stockholm’s Södermalm, and staged a topless demonstration. They chanted slogans like “No Sharia” and “Free women”, and had similar messages written across their chests.
They were later taken away by the police. One of the women was Swedish, another Tunisian, both of whom declined to disclose their full names to the press, because of the fear of reprisals.
We talked to the third demonstrator, Aliaa Elmadhy, who left her homeland Egypt after she received thousands of death threats because of a naked photo of herself she had posted on her blog.
