Plan for Flu Pandemic

Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare has promised free vaccinations to citizens in the event of a global flu epidemic.

Health authorities here have presented a contingency plan in case this Scandinavian country is hit with a flu pandemic. Part of the plan is to keep enough antiviral drugs for at least society’s most important groups. According to the Board of Health, the groups considered most important to society are workers in the healthcare and emergency service sectors and in utility delivery and garbage collection.

The World Health Organization warned in December that a deadly flu pandemic could be imminent and could possibly kill as many as 50 million people.
