Latvian authorities to investigate Telia Sonera

The Stockholm-headquartered mobile phone and operating company, Telia Sonera, will be investigated by Latvian authorities, according to Bloomberg News, with regards to its dealings in Uzbekistan.

Swedish Radio News reports that what will be investigated are transactions Telia is to have made to the Latvian bank, Parex. Parex was one of the country's biggest banks but had economic problems and was taken over by the state in 2008.

Swedish prosecutors have been investigating suspicions that Telia may have paid bribes to establish itself as a mobile operator in Uzbekistan.
