Man detained in Ethiopia returns to Sweden

Mohamud Dayib, a Swedish resident and local politician, is returning to Sweden after being detained and allegedly beaten by police earlier this month in Ethiopia.

According to Swedish Radio News, Dayib has boarded a flight to return to Sweden.

Dayib was seized by police while on holiday with his wife and children in the Ogaden province of Ethiopa. It is still not known why he was detained.

Dayib is involved in politics in the city of Gothenburg, where he is a member of the Green Party.

Ogaden, close to the border with Somalia, is the war-torn region where two Swedish journalists, Martin Schibbye and Johan Persson, were arrested in 2011.
