The National Agency for Education is objecting because several students who belong to a Christian revivalist denomination in Pajala in the far north have been excused from what are supposed to be mandatory classes in dance, part of their physical education. Their parents say dancing is against their religion, but the agency says such exemptions aren’t permitted under the law.

We asked Claes-Göran Aggebo, the agency’s Director of Education, why they insist that physical education, and all aspects of physical education, should be mandatory?
