Two men injured in Gothenburg shooting

Two men were injured in a Thursday night shooting incident in a residential area of Gothenburg.

One or two vehicles were observed leaving the scene of the crime. Witnesses said they had heard a series of loud noises, which they first thought were firecrackers, according to the local Göteborgs-Posten (GP) newspaper.

One of he two victims brought to the local Sahlgrenska Hospital has life-threatening injuries.  The two men, both in their 20's, are known to the police and are said to move in criminal circles.

A preliminary police investigation has been initiated into the incident, which is currently regarded as attempted murder or manslaughter.

The area where the shooting took place, in Västra Frölunda in southwestern Gothenburg, was cordoned off and a forensic investigation was underway on Friday morning. No suspect has yet been arrested.
