Church earns billions despite membership drop
Despite a steady decline in membership, the income of the Church of Sweden continues to rise, with the Church making a profit of SEK 1.3 billion last year.
It is likely that this trend will continue this year, Church of Sweden senior controller Magnus Kald told Radio Sweden News.
Since Sweden's national church became independent of the state in 2000, the membership has decreased by 700,000. However, this decline in membership has been compensated by an annual four percent increase in income.
This four percent increase is due to the fact that salaries, which are used to determine the membership fee, have increased since the year 2000, according to Kald.
