Personal best not enough for Sjöström in 50-m freestyle

Despite swimming her fastest 50 meter freestyle race yet, Sarah Sjöström came in fourth in the final of the 50m freestyle at the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona, on Sunday.

The 19-year-old swimmer missed bronze by 15 hundredths of a second, and it went to Francesca Halsall from Great Britain.

"It's great that I could swim so fast," Sjöström told Swedish Radio Sports News, "but it's hard swimming the 50 meter freestyle when you have the fast girls who are so incredibly fast at the start. I was so far behind that it was really hard to catch up."

However, Sjöström did win medals in other races at the Championships - she nabbed gold in the 100 meter butterfly and silver in the 100 meter freestyle.
