Turkish authorities investigate hotel stomach bug

The 35 children who were hospitalised with acute stomach disease while vacationing with their families in Turkey suffered from "tourist diarrhoea", according to the Turkish Tourism Office.

Twenty of the children are Swedish.

An investigation by Turkish authorities into hygiene conditions at the Alanya hotel where the children stayed concluded that they had not fallen ill with food poisoning. The inquiry found no problems with hygiene at the hotel.

The Turkish authorities have not provided an explanation as to why the children were infected. According to previous reports, the reason could have been feces found in the children's swimming pool at the Pasha Bay hotel in Alanya.
