Rival football fans clash in Malmö

A man in his mid-twenties was severely injured when violence broke out between football supporters in central Malmö late Saturday night, local media report.

The fight spread across the city and around 50 police officers from Malmö and neighbouring areas were called in.

The brawls came ahead of a Sunday match between local club Malmö FF and Stockholm club AIK. According to the police, supporters of the two clubs, as well as of the Helsingborg club HIF and the Copenhagen club FC Köpenhamn, were involved in the fights.

One of the hotels where supporters from Stockholm stayed had to be cordoned off in order to protect the guests, news agency TT reports.

One person has been arrested for assault and another 10 people have been apprehended.
