Mold leads to crayfishing ban in the southwest

Swedish Radio News reports that a ban on crayfishing has been introduced in southwestern Sweden. This follows the discovery of a parasitic mold in several streams in the province of Dalsland.

Lakes and streams in Bengtsfors, Mellerud and Färgelanda have been affected.

The crayfishing ban will be in place for two years. Boats and equipment used in the affected area may not be transported to other water streams without being disinfected first, the county administrative board has ruled.

The ban comes at the height of Sweden's crayfish season.
