Flinck qualifies with a record throw

Sofia Flinck has set a new Swedish record for the javelin and qualified for Sunday's final at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow.

The 18-year old had hoped to launch her javelin over the 59-metre mark and qualify, but instead, she sent it almost three metres past. "Unreal, unreal!" she said to Swedish Radio Sport after the throw.

And while Russia's strongest competitor in the contest, Maria Abakumova, reached 69 to qualify, the Flinck says she has still got some reserves to draw on. "It wasn't a perfect throw, it felt like I was holding back," she said to Swedish Radio Sport.
