More money for refugee friendly councils

The government has proposed that local councils that take in a high proportion of refugees should receive extra financing, while councils that fail to take in many newcomers would have their budgets cut.

At a press conference Monday morning, Integration Minister Erik Ullenhag described the plan as “a clear signal to those who don’t want to take a solidaric responsibility”.

Up to SEK 350 million would be allocated for those municipalities taking in more refugees, starting next year.
