Sacking of agency head "damages" government

"Damaging for the government"
4:02 min

The sacking of the Director General of the Public Employment Service - Angeles Bermudez-Svankvist - reflects also on the government, according to political commentators.

Radio Sweden asked Swedish Television's political commentator why this is the case.

"They told everybody she was an example of the new way of recruitment of top officials, not a political recruitment, but a professional one. And they used her as a good example. And of course, the scandals around Angeles Bermudes-Svankvist are now damaging the government," he says.

"It is the most important agency today, because we have an unemployment rate of 7-8 percent and the agency is the major tool for the government to handle the unemployment and we are heading for an election which is dominated by this issue, the unemployment," he said.
