Poisonous melons at ICA

Children may become ill and suffer muscle spasms and breathing difficulties if they eat honeydew melons from the ICA chain that have been contaminated with a banned pesticide.

Around 70 boxes of melons were sold by a Dutch wholesaler to ICA, which has sent them to shops in central Sweden. Authorities in the Netherlands found the melons had a high amount of carbofuran, which is banned in the EU and affects the nervous system.

The amount found is so high that a child only needs to eat about 100 grams to be affected.
