man arrested in preliminary murder investigation

Death plunge from apartment balcony

A man died in a fall from a seventh floor apartment building balcony in Söder, Stockholm in the early hours of Thursday morning. Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

"He was arrested when police arrived at the scene," police officer Magnus Nilsson tells tabloid Aftonbladet.

The man who plunged from the balcony to his death was pronounced dead at the scene in the early hours of Thursday. Police are carrying out door to door inquiries in the area.

The police at first treated the fall as an accident but are now not ruling out the possibility of a crime and a preliminary murder investigation is underway.

"It's very low suspicion level at present and it is customary to begin a criminal investigation in the case of this death," Stockholm central policeman Mikael Petterson tells Aftonbladet.
