New EU rules could mean the end of liquorice pipes, news agency TT reports.

Sweets and toys that resemble tobacco products could be banned in the EU's new tobacco directive. The European Parliament is to vote on the directive soon, and the amendment, put on the table by the parliament, looks like being approved, TT reports.

Reaction to the possible ban on the popular candy has been swift.

Centre Party leader and government minister Annie Lööf wrote on Twitter: "Jesus Christ. The EU needs to deal with the right kinds of things."
