Two thirds of adult cyclists don't use helmets

Adult cyclists set a bad example for children when it comes to wearing protective headgear, with two out of every three not using a helmet, according to a survey by the National Society for Road Safety.

In Stockholm, where heavy traffic motivates many to take precautions, some 65 percent of the adults cyclists use helmets, according to news agency TT, while in the university town of Uppsala, only 13 percent opt for helmets.

Statistics show that cyclists are the most susceptible to injury of all road users. More than 25,000 cyclists are injured so severely each year that they are forced to spend at least one day in the hospital.
