Fire in Luleå student housing

A student accommodation in Luleå in northern Sweden was destroyed by fire in the early hours of Saturday morning. Three people have been taken to the hospital for examination, but no injuries are reported.

The fire reported started in an apartment at the top of the building, and rapidly spread. According to the police, around 40 people lived in the five storey building. Surrounding buildings were evacuated as fire-fighters from three stations fought the blaze. The fire was brought under control just after 6:00 AM Saturday.

The surrounding buildings were not damaged, and their residents have been allowed to return home.

The Luleå University student union will be holding an information meeting for the displaced residents on Sunday. The police have begun a technical investigation into how the fire started.
