Malmö's Sturup Airport

Malmö airport incident "not landing gear fire"

Authorities at Malmös Sturup Airport dispute a report that a landing gear caught fire as an Iberia flight from Madrid was landing Saturday afternoon.

According to airport operator Swedavia, the control tower had a better view of the situation than the pilots, and the sudden appearance of smoke was caused by a combination of leaking oil and hot brakes, rather than a fire in the landing gear.

“The situation is under control and all the passengers have left the plane,” Marie Persson of the Skåne Police told the TT news agency after the incident.
