Malmö police to pay rent on vacated office

The Malmö Police department is on the hook for paying rent at its former, and now empty, offices after failing to terminate its lease on time, reports Malmö's Kvällsposten newspaper.

The department moved in March to its newly built station down the road from its old offices but apparently forgot to end its rental agreement. When police tried to cancel their lease, the landlord objected, saying the notice was too late to end the contract.

Peter Tallinger, head of the department's finances, said police will now have to pay the more than SEK 1.5 million in rent until the contract expires in October 2014 or until another tenant takes over the lease.
