Pedestrians as dangerous as cars: report

Pedestrians are as dangerous for cyclists as cars, according to a study conducted at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, reports newspaper Göteborgs-Posten.

One third of bicycle accidents surveyed were a result of contact with pedestrians, an amount equal to those accidents involving cars.

Researcher Marco Dozza says that both kinds of accidents can lead to serious consequences.

"A crash with a pedestrian can result in death, just a bicycle crash involving a car can have fatal consequences," he told the newspaper.
