Unemployment still high - despite improved economy

Despite positive signs for the economy, unemployment in Sweden is still high, according to the latest figures from the National Employment Service. In August 402,000 people, or 8,5 percent of the labour market, were registered as unemployed.

The number of those who have been unemployed for more than six months is continuing to grow.

Analyst Susanna Okeke at the employment service tells Swedish Radio News she thinks the figures will continue to increase, and that unemployment won't start going down until the beginning of next year.
