Social Democrats want more pre-school teachers

The lack of pre-school teachers is a problem, according to the Social Democrats, who want to see another 1000 educated every year. This would mean an increase of 25 per cent compared to today, the news agency TT reports.

"This is necessary to lower the unemployment and to see to that all children will get a good start in pre-school, Social Democrat leader Stefan Löfven said at a press conference on Wednesday.

According to the Swedish Higher Education Authority, there will be a lack of pre-school teachers by 2030 if nothing is done.

By increasing the number of pre-school teachers, the Social Democrats want to achieve smaller groups in the pre-schools. According to Löfven, the number of pre-school groups with more than 20 kids have increased by over 50 per cent since 2006 when the centre-right government came to power.
