Sluggish recovery for engineering predicted

The Swedish engineering industry showed a modest recovery during the third quarter of 2013. New orders continued to grow, but at a slower pace, according to the results of a survey by Teknikföretagen, the engineering companies' industry organization.

Demand among subcontractors to the housing and car industries has not picked up yet. The overall business situation for suppliers to different industries shows a mixed picture.

"Orders for suppliers to the motor car industry decelerated after an extensive improvement in the second quarter. On the other hand demand for suppliers to the industry of machinery and equipment has improved considerably for the first time in six quarters," the report states. This is also true of suppliers to the electrical engineering and the telecom industry

"Economic trends shift fairly rapidly, so we expect that this cycle is now behind us. That suggests that 2014 could turn out to be quite a good year," concludes Anders Rune, senior economist at Teknikföretagan
