Johnasson, now ranked 11th in the world, will be replaced by Simon Aspelin, who teams up with Thomas Johnasson, Jonas Bjorkman and Robin Soderling in a four man squad announced by coach Mats Wilander.
Aspelin is expected to play doubles with Bjorkman. It will be Aspelin’s first Davis Cup match since 2001, when Sweden defeated Russia in the quarterfinals.
In last month’s Australian Open, the fast serving Johansson hit a record 51 aces in a losing effort against Andre Agassi in the quarterfinals. But his serve has also caused repeated strain on his shoulder, which forced him to sit out last year’s Davis Cup tie against the United States.
