Stockholm may host 2022 Winter Olympics

Swedes could see the Olympic flame return to Stockholm for the first time in over a century in as the Swedish Olympic Committee announced today that they will place a bid for hosting the winter games in 2022.

The current bid is only a preliminary interest bid, an official bid won't be submitted to the International Olympic Committee until March 14 next year.

The last time Sweden hosted the Olympic Games was in the summer olympics in 1912, and despite great success in winter sports the country hasn't hosted the winter olympics to this date.

The Swedish capital could be up in the running against neighbouring Oslo, in Norway, and Beijing, China amongst others for the Games.

The decision, who will host the Winter Olympics and Paralympics in 2022, will be announced on July 31st 2015.
