More students drop out of new teacher education

The new teacher education has failed to stop teachers dropping out of training. A survey by Swedish Television News shows that almost one in six student teachers are quitting before they finish their course, more than before the reform.

Josefin Kärf is chair of the student teacher association at Uppsala University. She says that the trainee teachers now spend less time in the classroom and that many feel unprepared to help children learn. She wants the new courses to be properly evaluated, at the national level.
