Åkerlund called immigrants "parasites" and said he wanted to send half a million immigrants back to their home countries. He also wanted to buy prison places for third-generation immigrants in their "home countries" and deport all their relatives.
Åkerlund, the Sweden Democrats' second man, made the statements in 2002 on the party's local radio station show. At the time, he was 53 years old and a seasoned politician, having represented the conservative Moderate party in the Ockelbo district council in eastern Sweden. He ran for the Sweden Democrats in the local Stockholm elections in 2002.
About once a month, Åkerlund presented an hour-long local radio show together with former Sweden Democrat Gun Kullberg in which he aired his opinions about immigrants and refugees, using the pseudonym "Viktor".
Sweden Democrat spokesman Linus Bylund told news agency TT that Åkerlund has distanced himself from his 2002 statements and said the issue has already been deal with within the party.
Åkerlund joined Parliament in 2010 and is a member of the Parliamentary Committee on the Constitution (Konstitutionsutskottet).
