People working with children can be forced to show criminal record

Starting December 18th any person working with children can be requested by their employer to show a recent criminal record. This was decided in a parliamentary vote today, daily Svenska Dagbladet reports.

The new law will apply not only to school staff but also to people working with youth teams at sports clubs, scout leaders and other organisations with young members.

Another addition to the law is that a limited criminal record can be requested. Instead of asking for a full record, employers can now request a record for specific crimes like aggravated abuse or sex crimes.
