Sweden Democrats to work with Front National in EU vote

The Sweden Democrats will join forces with five far-right European parties ahead of EU-wide elections next May.

News agency AFP reports that the Sweden Democrats will work with political parties from France, Italy, Belgium, Slovakia and Austria.

Representatives from the six parties met in Vienna on Friday to discuss a possible alliance that Heinz-Christian Strache, leader of Austria's Freedom Party, said would put Europe "back on the right track."

He told AFP the framework of the alliance is not yet formalized and did not say when it might be determined.

According to the latest polls, the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats would be the country's third largest political party following the national elections in September next year.

The elections for the European Parliament will take place in May next year.
