Swedish stores embrace Black Friday sales

An increasing number of Swedish retailers and online stores embrace the American shopping tradition "Black Friday", newspaper Dagens Nyheter reports. In the US the Black Friday sales typically feature heavy discounts and more items on sale.

Black Friday falls on the day after Thanksgiving and marks the start of the Christmas shopping season in the US. And despite that Sweden doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving, several stores are trying to introduce the sale this year.

"Stores like Mediamarkt, Elgiganten and Cdon all have Black Friday sales this year, " says Carin Blom of the retailers' organisation HUI Research.

She adds that it's hard to estimate at this point just how big this sale will be for Swedish retailers in the future.
