Teen politician beaten up for her views

Published lördag 11 januari 2014 kl 16.10

A 16-year-old member of the Social Democrat party's youth wing was attacked in the southern Swedish city of Malmö by two men who beat her and spat on her after she made a speech on immigration.

The attack took place on Thursday after she left the event. She said that she heard someone calling her by name. When she turned around, several men pulled her aside.

"They quoted one thing about immigration that I said during a speech and said that I was a joke. They called me a disgusting feminist," she told the Sydsvenskan newspaper.
She was beaten by the men until a woman walked nearby and apparently scared the attackers away.

"I'm very happy that she came, otherwise I don't know what would have happened. I started vomiting after being hit in the stomach. Then the police came," she said.

The 16-year-old girl was shown photographs of possible suspects, but she did not recognize any of them. By lunchtime on Saturday, no arrests had been made.

"The police could see from my stomach that I had been beaten. I could not believe what had happened and I remember thinking: Is it worth it?" she told the newspaper.
