Drivers cautioned as winter settles in

Winter weather is hitting all of Sweden this weekend, and by Sunday evening, snow is expected to blanket large areas of southern Sweden.

The Swedish Transport Administration is cautioning drivers to watch out for icy road conditions all the way down through to Skåne.

From Stockholm and up along the northern coast, two to three decemeters of snow are expected, and in the far North, temperatures could sink below -30 degrees Celsius.

Slippery roads have been reported in many areas of the country, including 40 in Borås, the E20 in Götene, the E4 north of Huskvarna, the E4 north of Tierp, and the E4 outside of Hudiksvall. Several people have been taken to the hospital because of accidents.

This week, meteorologists are forecasting a high pressure area to park itself over Scandinavia, leading to chilly temperatures throughout the whole country.
