Swedish stars gather for film awards gala
The great and the good gather in Stockholm Monday evening for the 50th annual Swedish national film awards. There are 19 award categories up for grabs, quite a contrast to 1964 when the film awards were first launched with just three categories, Best Director (won by Ingmar Bergman), Best Actor and Best Actress for films from the previous year.
Monica Z, Per Fly's biopic of Swedish singer Monica Zetterlund, leads the contenders with 11 nominations, including Best Film and Best Actress for singer-songwriter Edda Magnasson in her first film role. The main challenge for Best Film comes from debutant Anna Odell's bullying drama Återträffen (The reunion).
