Whirlpool to shut Norrköping factory

American appliance manufacturer Whirlpool is laying off 323 employees, as it closes its factory in Norrköping in central Sweden.

The factory has been producing about 500,000 microwave ovens a year. However, Whirlpool Sweden's CEO Raphael Delrue tells news agency TT that it has now become unprofitable because of price cuts in Europe following the Euro crisis and increased competition from low-wage countries like Turkey, China and Korea as they enter the market.
