Al Shabaab Swedes must wait another year for trial in USA

Two Swedes will sit in custody in New York for at least another year, before facing trial for alleged terrorism.

The two men, aged 29 and 31, were seized by US forces in Djibouti, west Africa, in summer 2012. They were taken to the USA before being charged, along with a third man, with terror crimes as part of the Somali Al Shabaab militia.

"According to our information the main court hearing will start in Spring 2015," says Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Charlotta Ozaki Macías to news agency TT.

The two men, with Somali backgrounds, had gone to 2008 to fight with Al Shabaab. Swedish intelligence had the two men under surveillance, but a prosecutor dropped the case against the two Swedes just before they were seized by Us-linked forces.

One of the men has been on hunger strike, the other has been sick and treated in hospital, reports news agency TT.
