Swedish companies release fourth quarter reports

Some of Sweden's biggest companies are currently releasing their financial reports for the fourth quarter of 2013, with a growing trend of paying more dividends to their owners.

Speaking to Swedish Radio News, journalist Pia Gripenberg says that much of the cash that is now being paid out to shareholders are profits made during the recession. But there are also other reasons, she claims:

"You can also see it like they are giving shareholders so much cash because they don't have any really good investment possibilities, they don't think they need the cash themselves."

Fashion retailer H & M posted a slight increase in profits for Q4 2013, while telecom giant Ericsson turned a loss in Q4 2012 to a profit in Q4 2013, even if it was below market expectations. Telecom operator Telia also posted lower than expected profits for the end of last year.
