Veterinarians face death threats

Almost half of veterinarians in Sweden have received threats and more than 10 percent of those have been threats of violence, some even death threats.

A recent study conducted by the Swedish Veterinarian Association paints a grim picture of the life of a veterinarian in Sweden. In addition to facing threats, nearly 40 percent of veterinarians don't feel supported by their employers when they do receive threats.

Johan Beck-Friis, PR-chief for the Swedish Veterinarian Association, told Swedish Radio that the figures are alarming and completely unacceptable.

"We need an emergency plan, that it should be followed and that those who are threatened should receive all possible support from their employers," Beck-Friis told Swedish Radio.
