Telemarketers may now call your cell phone

Starting February 1st, Swedish telemarketers are allowed to call both landlines and cell phones in order to market and sell their products. This after a change in the telemarketing code of ethics.

The change is due to a joint effort by the Swedish Direct Marketing Association and the industry organisation Kontakta.

"We've made so many technological advances in recent years and landlines are almost obsolete these days. Our rules and legislations need to be updated to reflect that," Tina Wahlroth, vice president at Kontakta, says to Swedish Radio News.

The change has prompted the Swedish do-not-call registry, Nix, to branch out and also include cell phone numbers.
