Thousands drop out of ski race Vasaloppet

Up to one third of the racers in the cross-country ski race Vasaloppet drop out or sell their slot before the race, news agency TT reports.

All the 67,000 slots to this year's edition of Vasaloppet are since long full, but Vasaloppet's sports manager Johan Eriksson says that all hope it not lost yet as almost a third of the people who have registered drop out or sell their slots before the race.

"A lot of people catch the flu in February and can't race. The lack of snow this winter also contributes to the high number of drop-outs," Eriksson says.

This year the 15,800 slots to the traditional 90 kilometer race were gone in only ten minutes.
