Sweden's bandy team could boycott next World Championship

The Swedish bandy team that snatched the silver medal in the World Bandy Championship this weekend threaten to boycott next year's World Championship in Chabarovsk, Russia, claiming that this year's championship suffered a lack of rules and nepotism.

A lot went wrong at the championship in Irkutsk, according to the Swedish Bandy Association. Games were cancelled with short notice, extreme cold weather conditions were not respected and players who should have been suspended got to play. The Swedish Bandy Association now says that the Swedish team won't play the next championship in Chabarovsk 2015 unless things are changed.

"It's time that someone steps up and tells it like it is. I have made a promise to the team and its players to not stand for unfair and undemocratic behaviour. It's only when you admit that something is wrong that things can change," Marcus Norman, General Director of the Swedish Bandy Association says to news agency TT.
