Spotify-subscription Foreign Ministry's new gift to world leaders

The Swedish Foreign Ministry may start giving world leaders who are visiting Sweden a subscription to the music streaming site Spotify and a playlist with Swedish music as a gift to promote the country, news agency TT reports.

Foreign Trade Minister Ewa Björling announced the new gift at the Swedish Music Export Awards Tuesday and said that handing out free subscriptions and playlists would spread Swedish music all over the world.

"We don't just want to showcase Swedish music, but also Swedish innovation and entrepreneurship," Björling said in an interview after the award show with Swedish Television SVT.

Björling said that the plan is for the government to have several VIP-accounts for visiting world leaders to share. The new gifts could be handed already this year, TT reports.
