Thorgren to compete in slopestyle final

The Swedish snowboarder Sven Thorgren has qualified to compete in the Olympic men's slopestyle final in Sochi, on Saturday.

Thorgren, 19, is one of eight snowboarders who qualified on Thursday morning for the finals, but there are four more places, and those will be determined Saturday morning in the semifinals. Thorgren's teammate Niklas Mattsson will be among those vying to compete in the finals.

According to news agency TT, this is the only one of four snowboard events that Sweden has a chance to medal in.

Slopestyle snowboarding is a new event in the Olympics. Sweden has no women yet on its slopestyle team.
