Stockholm criticized for graffiti ad ban

Stockholm City Council should not have stopped the national theatre association Riksteatern from using the city's billboards to advertise a graffiti convention, according to the Justice Ombudsman.

Stockholm has a strict "zero-tolerance" attitude towards graffiti, and claimed the billboards would have broken that policy, but the ombudsman says that argument is not good enough, Swedish Television reports.

Campaigners want the city to put up walls where graffiti artists can legally practice their art, but local politicians have refused, saying it would encourage illegal spraying on other walls and surfaces, such as trains.
